Sasha Banks Must Become the Next WWE Divas Champion

Sebastian MaldonadoOct 8, 2015

Many believe Sasha Banks is a WWE Superstar in the making; the fact is, she’s already there.

This WWE Diva made her name climbing up the ranks in NXT’s Women’s division. Banks appropriately dubbed herself “The Boss,” becoming one of the best heels in NXT. She eventually struck gold on February 11 by toppling Charlotte, Bayley and Becky Lynch in a Fatal-4-Way match for the NXT Women’s title.

Banks carried that title with pride. She stopped all comers in her way until this past August at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, where she lost the title to Bayley in a phenomenal bout.

Luckily for Banks, bigger things are in her picture.

While she ran rampant over at NXT, she made her WWE main roster debut as part of the Divas Revolution. She now teams with Naomi and Tamina Snuka, forming Team B.A.D. (Beautiful And Dangerous). Banks has picked up victories over Paige, Alicia Fox and both Bellas.

The Boss has also gained supporters within the WWE Universe. The “We Want Sasha” chants keep growing rapidly. Ask and ye shall receive, because Sasha Banks has arrived. Frankly, Sasha Banks is the best thing going in the Divas Revolution today.

Sasha Banks must become the next WWE Divas champion. This championship will solidify her status on the main roster and make her the face of the Divas division.

However, there’s an old saying that holds true to Banks’ journey: “Patience is a virtue.”

Banks still had unfinished business with Bayley. The Boss vied for her once beloved title in a 30-minute Iron Man match. Unfortunately, Bayley came through and turned Banks back. Bayley won three falls to two and retained her NXT Women’s title in an instant classic.

These two women became the first in WWE history to compete under Iron Man rules. No other WWE woman in history can claim that: not the Fabulous Moolah, not Lita, Trish Stratus or AJ Lee.

Banks and Bayley closed out their chapter in an amazing bout that redefined WWE women’s wrestling. Now comes the next part in Banks' career: making her name on the main roster.

That doesn’t mean she goes on to win the Divas title right away. Every wrestler has her road to travel, but it’s usually long. It took quite a while to entrust Stratus and Lee with holding the titles. Banks won’t be any different.

Granted, Paige and Charlotte were rare exceptions. They were ready to become champion because of their track record on NXT and their shock value. Paige defeated Lee to make history, and Charlotte did the same when beating Nikki Bella.

Banks won’t have that luxury. She’ll have to win over every single member of the WWE fans and management to become the Divas’ new face.

The Boss will also battle and conquer every single Diva. Many of them are thriving to become the next Divas champion.

This makes for an interesting dilemma. How should Banks be booked in her path for becoming champion?

It’s a simple formula. Have her beat everyone except Charlotte. Wrestlers need obstacles to overcome. They don’t mean anything if goals are accomplished immediately.

Charlotte needs to be the bane for Sasha Banks. She needs to outsmart The Boss at every turn.

This builds up Banks in a position she’s not used to being in: the underdog. It’ll make her name mean more than just another Diva on the program. Banks should dethrone Charlotte at WrestleMania 32, granting her a WrestleMania moment that will spawn a new era for her division and, more importantly, herself.

Sasha Banks has earned the right to be a WWE Diva. The Boss is a true force within this division and a brand name that deserves the coveted spotlight. It may take long for Banks to become champion, but if booked right, it’ll be worth the wait.
