Nike Air Jordan 1 OG High Retro 'UNC' Release Date, Pics and Retail Price

Adam WellsJun 4, 2018

It's fitting during a year in which pop culture celebrates Back to the Future Part II that on Saturday Nike would offer sports fans their own trip to 1985 with the re-release of the Air Jordan 1 OG High Retro "UNC."

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Jordan Brand, which has become arguably the most iconic in all of sports, 12 years after Michael Jordan last played in an NBA game.

Since the sneaker celebrates that anniversary, as well as Jordan's days at North Carolina, let's look at how that Tar Heel blue pops, via NikeBlog.com:

Per Patrick Johnson of SneakerNews.com, there should be even more anticipation for this Air Jordan retro release than normal because of how elusive it has been through the years.

"

It’s rather seldom an original colorway stays locked away in the Jordan Brand vault for so long, but the Tar Heels inspired look did just that. Now three decades after originally releasing, you’ll get a chance to grab the pair later this year in the freshly minted ‘Remastered’ process.

"

Credit Nike and the Jordan Brand for being able to resist the urge to empty the vault sooner, as this feels like an opportune time to celebrate this particular iteration of his Air Jordan 1.

Bringing things back to Back to the Future, as well as the Air Jordan, there's a small resemblance to the future shoes worn by Marty McFly and these retro sneakers, via J23 iPhone App:

They aren't quite as high-top as the 2015 McFly-top shoes, but there are skyscrapers that don't reach those soaring elevations.

There are few athletes in history who are worthy of having a shoe released to celebrate a 30th anniversary. Jordan is certainly one of them, especially since the brand is named after him.

Jordan fans will certainly be getting their money's worth on Saturday, both in terms of uniqueness and nostalgic value.
