ULM Vs ASU: A Look at Arizona State
Pre-Game Thoughts
It's hard to forget the catastrophic loss that set in motion Arizona State's tie breaker for the worst losing season in school history. That fatfeul home game vs. UNLV that ended in a massive upset of 23-20. ASU was heavily favored for that game, and the Arizona State football team will not make the assumptions they did before.
For a team that debuted the 2008 season in a national top 20 ranking to lose to such a team as UNLV, was unfathomable. But, it happened. To underestimate an opponent like Louisiana Monroe would be their first mistake. A team that upset Alabama (2007) 21-14. This team is no Idaho State. If ASU is going to base their play ability against ULM off of the 50-3 win against the FCS's worst team, they are in for a long night at Sun Devil Stadium.
Arizona State Key Weapons
Defense:
Arizona State's defense is ranked 14th nationally in major defensive stats (azcentral.com). A pretty big plate for ULM to consume. ASU allowed 37 total yards against ISU. They only allowed 3 points. If your questioning the quality of the opponent, take a look at ISU's 2009 game vs. Oklahoma (Ranked 12th nationally). Oklahoma allowed more total yards and more scoring points than ASU. Although Oklahoma's offense outscored ASU's final scored vs ISU, but played better defensively. That's saying a lot. This game will primarily be won on ASU's part defensively.
