Irvin Key Cog to Legion of Boom Defense
Irvin has proved to be one of the Seahawks' most durable weapons and played in 43 of a possible 48 games the past three seasons for Seattle. He had played in the team's first nine games this season and, heading into Week 10, had registered 25 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
The former first-round draft pick tallied 16.5 sacks and three interceptions entering the 2015 campaign, per Pro-Football-Reference.com. He also started 13 games last season and was a critical part of a defense that led the Seahawks to two consecutive Super Bowl appearances.
His athleticism and speed on the outside make Irvin an ideal complement to Bobby Wagner on the inside because they combine to stuff holes and limit the opposing rushing attack.
While the Seahawks have enough pieces to remain afloat in the NFC playoff race without him, Irvin makes this Super Bowl hopeful much more formidable on the defensive side.
