Wolverines Lose Defensive Leader for Season

Ojemudia, a senior, suffered the injury in Saturday's 28-0 win over Maryland. He went down while making a tackle in the fourth quarter and did not return, with Harbaugh acknowledging at the time his prognosis was not good, per Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press:

"

Looks like it is (long-term). Looks like it will be Achilles. That is a hard, tough rehab type of injury. I've got some experience with that one. Not personally, but I've seen it. It's a tough injury. Surgery and then you just can't do anything. Can't try to come back from that too early. But once you do rehab that, it comes back solid. The first time that's happened to him. It's the kind of injury you can come back successfully from it. But it's also a hard and tough rehab.

"

Ojemudia was third on the defense with 19 tackles and had recorded two sacks. Harbaugh said either Royce Jenkins-Stone or Lawrence Marshall will take Ojemudia's spot in the starting lineup.

"We'll look within our roster and our defense. I don't know exactly who yet, but it'll be one of those guys," Harbaugh said, per ESPN.com's Dan Murphy

Losing Ojemudia is a difficult blow for a Michigan defense that's firing on all cylinders. The Wolverines have recorded back-to-back shutouts and have allowed only 14 total points on their four-game winning streak. With a marquee clash against No. 13 Northwestern awaiting Saturday, it'll be interesting to see if Jenkins-Stone or Marshall can fill the void.
