Twitter Reacts as Arsenal and Alexis Sanchez Blow Away Manchester United

Tom WebbOct 4, 2015

Arsenal overtook Manchester United to move second in the Premier League table after an emphatic win at the Emirates Stadium.

While much of the build-up focused on Arsenal's poor record against their old rivals, recent disappointments were quickly forgotten, as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez (twice) scored three in a crazy opening 20 minutes.

Alexia Sanchez has "literally exploded into life", according to Andy Townsend.

Arsenal's opening blitz was a nightmare for live-bloggers and commentators alike, but the home fans weren't complaining:

"

The absolute nightmare scenario for minute-by-minuters everywhere.

— Nick Miller (@NickMiller79) October 4, 2015"
"

For crying out loud Arsenal, give a bloke the chance to tweet before you score again.

Many were pointing the finger of blame at Wayne Rooney, who was struggling up front:

"

Can we all just accept that 'Rooney years' are a bit like cat years and he's actually now 43?

— Reda Maher (@Reda_Maher_LDN) October 4, 2015"
"

Wayne Rooney is hilariously bad.

— Graham Ruthven (@grahamruthven) October 4, 2015"
"

Nice touch of United to wear black today to mark the final passing of Wayne Rooney's first touch.

— Daniel Storey (@danielstorey85) October 4, 2015"
"

There's a Rooney documentary on the BBC tomorrow. Apparently the first 20 minutes are really good but it's poor for the next three years

While many wondered why Louis van Gaal had left ex-Arsenal target Morgan Schneiderlin on the bench:

"

Look, Louis, if you're not going to play Schneiderlin, you might as well just give him to a kid who'll use him.

— Nick Miller (@NickMiller79) October 4, 2015"
"

Get Schneiderlin on, get Schneiderlin on, get Schneiderlin on, get Schneiderlin on...

— Jay (@RFFH) October 4, 2015"
"

Schneiderlin was poor in midweek but this is the type of game in which he plays his best football. Can't understand why he didn't start.

— Chris Fleming (@Chris__Fleming) October 4, 2015"

For Arsenal fans, news of local rivals Tottenham Hotspur also struggling topped off the greatest of days:

"

#AFC 3-0 #MUFC + Harry Kane own goal = some pretty happy Arsenal fans... pic.twitter.com/4fDCeOFIfR

— Eurosport UK (@Eurosport_UK) October 4, 2015"

But there wasn't much for their opponents to take from the day:

"

Positives for United: - Martial - The scoreline could have been worse - That adidas Originals range is really nice
