Burke's Injury Hinders Thin Jazz Guards

Burke averaged an identical 12.8 points during his first and second seasons with the Utah Jazz, but his production took a turn for the worst throughout the 2014-15 campaign.

Despite his scoring average holding steady, Burke shot a woeful 36.8 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from three, while Dante Exum emerged as a key piece of the team's defense.

However, Exum tore the ACL in his left knee during international play over the offseason. As a result, Burke was thrust into a bigger role after Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey told reporters the point guard "made more physical improvement over the course of the summer than any other player," per the Deseret News' Jody Genessy

Burke has averaged 11.6 points and 2.3 assists while shooting 45 percent from the field and 44 percent from three.

Utah's already short-handed at point guard, so it needs to hope Burke's injury isn't anything too serious.

However, the team did sign Brazilian floor general Raul Neto to a two-year deal guaranteed for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, per BasketballInsiders.com. In his first taste of NBA action, Neto's averaging 4.2 points and 2.2 assists on 33.9 percent shooting from the floor.

Neto's not an ideal solution at the 1, but the Jazz don't have another choice as their depth continues to get decimated.
