Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Raul's All-Time Real Madrid Goalscoring Record

Gianni VerschuerenOct 17, 2015

Star forward Cristiano Ronaldo officially became Real Madrid's all-time leading scorer across all competitions on Saturday, overtaking club legend Raul on the scoring chart with a goal against Levante.

The Portugal international curled a lovely shot into the bottom corner from outside the box to pass Raul's record of 323 goals.

Ronaldo had already moved ahead of Raul in La Liga scoring earlier this season, and it was only a matter of time before he smashed the Spaniard's overall record as well.

The 30-year-old's mark is impressive in its own right, but when you consider the fact he only joined Los Blancos in 2009, having spent several seasons with Manchester United, the numbers start to look almost absurd.

Ronaldo tied Raul's haul of 323 goals in fewer than half the number of matches (308 versus 741) when he scored a brace in the UEFA Champions League against Malmo. B/R's Sam Pilger crunched the numbers and came up with this phenomenal statistic:

As the MailOnline's Alex Sharp reported, Real have maintained all season that Ronaldo has one more goal than the official records state, with a deflected free-kick off Pepe attributed to Ronaldo by Los Blancos but not record-keepers.

In other words, Real celebrated Ronaldo's achievement of becoming the club's all-time leading scorer against Malmo, but with his goal on Saturday, any confusion has become obsolete.

The three-time Ballon d'Or winner is now the undisputed best pure scorer in Real history, beating a long list of legendary players like the aforementioned Raul, as well as the likes of Ferenc Puskas and Alfredo Di Stefano.
