The New Day vs. The Dudley Boyz: Winner, Reaction from 2015 WWE Live from MSG

Mike ChiariOct 3, 2015

After narrowly escaping with the WWE Tag Team Championships at Night of Champions, The New Day successfully retained their titles once again at Saturday's live Madison Square Garden special on WWE Network, albeit by a technicality.

As a result of interference by Xavier Woods, The Dudley Boyz won the match, but the title can't change hands in a disqualification. The Dudleys gained a small measure of revenge, sending Woods through a table following the match, per the WWE:

Former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas is looking ahead to how the feud might change going forward:

Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E have been engaged in a heated feud with Bubba Ray and D-Von for the past several weeks. After The New Day became two-time tag team champions at SummerSlam, the Dudleys made a shocking return to WWE and immediately took aim at the energetic trio.

The Dudley Boyz have dominated by defeating most of the top teams in the tag division, including The New Day in a non-title match. That set the stage for a bout with the straps on the line at Night of Champions; however, the cunning and resourceful champs found a way around the situation.

Just when it seemed like Bubba Ray and D-Von were about to become WWE tag team champions for the 10th time, Woods interfered, which resulted in a disqualification. The Dudleys won the match but not the titles.

That further infuriated The Dudley Boyz, who have made a habit of putting The New Day members through tables. That hasn't gone over well with Kofi, Big E and Woods, who have launched a campaign to help save the tables:

Their movement certainly hasn't stopped Bubba and D-Von from doing whatever they please, though, and they let The New Day know that via social media:

The New Day aren't averse to a bit of trash talk in their own right, however, which led to them firing back on multiple occasions on Twitter and the microphone during WWE programming:

The rivalry between The New Day and The Dudley Boyz has been among the most entertaining things on WWE programming recently, so it is understandable why the powers that be decided to make them an integral part of a WWE Network special.

While Brock Lesnar was billed as the headliner, a WWE Tag Team Championship match between two of the best all-around teams in the business most definitely increased interest in the MSG card.

A title changed hands at WWE's last event of this nature when Finn Balor defeated Kevin Owens to win the NXT Championship. Because of that, there was some belief that something similar would happen Saturday.

That ultimately wasn't the case, though, as The New Day found a way to keep the tag titles around their waists.

Regardless of the result, though, this angle is far from over, and in all likelihood we can expect another rematch a few weeks from now at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.
