Ranking Juventus' Top 5 Players for September

Adam DigbyOct 1, 2015

Given their start to the season, September has not been kind to Juventus, the club enduring a number of serious issues and finding themselves with just five points from their opening six Serie A fixtures.

They have fared much better in Europe, however, following up their Champions League victory over Manchester City with a comfortable win against Sevilla this week. Suffering with a raft of injuries and looking for a solution to their severe loss of form, Gigi Buffon was quick to offer his opinion earlier this week.

"We have to roll up our sleeves, get our hands dirty and deal with the situation,” the club captain told Sky Italia (h/t FourFourTwo). “We know what we need to change to improve, and we'll be taking it now match by match.”

Adding that the team need to “find our identity,” Buffon and coach Massimiliano Allegri have been helped in that aim by a few good performances. What follows is a look at the five best Juventus players from the past month, ones who have ignored the general malaise to deliver for the Bianconeri.

5. Gigi Buffon

1 of 5

Indicative of how poor the team has been overall, seeing Gigi Buffon among Juve’s best players cannot be a good sign.

The goalkeeper has made a string of impressive saves, and has often been the only reason the Bianconeri have not suffered even more embarrassing results in the first month of action.

4. Paulo Dybala

2 of 5

Given he was effectively signed to replace Carlos Tevez in the Juventus XI, Paulo Dybala has rarely appeared daunted or overawed by the size of the task that represents for a player his age.

Like his Argentinian compatriot, the former Palermo man has been an incisive attacking threat every time he takes to the field, showing the Bianconeri were right to have invested so heavily in him back in the summer.

With three goals and one assist in his seven appearances thus far, Dybala looks as though he, too, will become a vital member of the Juve first team.

3. Mario Lemina

3 of 5

One of the club’s most unheralded summer arrivals, Mario Lemina joined from Marseille and has quickly established a reputation as a player with huge potential, proving that Max Allegri can rely on him to perform with consistency.

According to statistics courtesy of WhoScored.com, Lemina has averaged 3.7 tackles and one interception per game while connecting with an impressive 92 percent of his pass attempts. He also grabbed the first goal of his Juventus career against Napoli, though it proved to be little more than a consolation effort by full-time.

2. Alvaro Morata

4 of 5

Much like Juventus, Alvaro Morata has not reached the high standards he set last season, his place on this list while not at his best shows just how important he has been in their two Champions League victories.

Clearly not fully fit in his four Serie A outings, the Spanish striker scored against both Manchester City and Sevilla to extend his streak to net in five consecutive games in UEFA’s elite competition.

On both occasions, he displayed a superb eye for goal, showing the clinical edge that the Bianconeri have lacked with both Morata and Mario Mandzukic out injured.

1. Juan Cuadrado

5 of 5

Arriving late in the transfer window, Juan Cuadrado has shrugged off the poor six months he endured at Chelsea to make an instant impact in Turin. Sharp, inventive and difficult to defend against, the Colombian has tormented opponents from the moment he pulled on a Juventus shirt.

Cuadrado has brought added tactical flexibility for his coach, and he is proving to be an excellent addition to Max Allegri’s squad, creating a steady supply of chances for his new team-mates.
