UFC 103: Waiting Is The Hardest Part

Dorothy WillisSep 18, 2009

Has anyone else ever noticed how hard it is to wait for a UFC event? By the time it is only a day a way I am almost crazy with anticipation.

By now I have read everyone else's theories on what should happen at the fights, predictions are in, betting odds have been published, weigh-ins are over and all the possibilities have been pointed out and pondered.

What is left to be said? Not anything of importance, at this late stage.

Waiting. . . Any teenager can tell you that waiting for homecoming to arrive is pure hell. A parent who is at home waiting for said teenager to come home after a homecoming event experiences hell of a different sort.

Not that tomorrow's fight is a homecoming for me, but several favorite fighters are returning to the ring in hopes of again feeling at home in the UFC.

Although Rich Franklin has not been away, he has not been able to rest easy after his losses to Anderson Silva and his search for a weight class to call his very own.

Vitor Belfort may want to make the UFC his home, but may have the jinx that so many coming to the UFC have suffered from.

Frank Trigg could not possibly feel at home in the organization where he has been choked out so many times by Matt Hughes and then Georges St. Pierre. Now Josh Koscheck is gunning to stretch out Frank's neck a little longer.

Mirco CroCop has also been leery of considering the UFC his home after the horrendous loss to Cheick Kongo, which he just barely survived. Without Big John's McCarthy's encouragement, would he have even continued on that night? And of course, unless John is in the audience, he will not even be refereeing a fight. (If only he could make calls from the audience! A lot of folks would be resting easier if he could).

Waiting to see which other UFC fighters not on the card will be filling the seats, as well as which celebrities and sports stars will make the event, is another fun factor.

My nerves are fraying as I hear of one more sportscaster calling the sport of MMA gay and homoerotic--what is with these dumb talking heads anyway? Give it a rest, already!

When the fight is at hand, will Mayweather's strategy to sink Dana White's battleship have scored a big hit or miss?

Only time will tell.
