NFL Week 4 Betting: Pre-Bye Trends for Jets, Dolphins, Vikings, Panthers

OddsShark.comSep 30, 2015

The bye weeks have officially begun in Week 4 of the NFL season, with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots and the Tennessee Titans the first two teams to get some time off.

However, four more will go on their byes in Week 5, and they would like nothing more than to head into their break off a victory.

The New York Jets (2-1), Miami Dolphins (1-2), Minnesota Vikings (2-1) and Carolina Panthers (3-0) are the teams on deck for a bye week, and all of them have betting trends resulting from how they historically perform the week before their week off.

The Jets and Dolphins will meet in London, with New York sitting as a two-point favorite after going 4-1 straight-up and against the spread in its previous five games prior to a bye week, according to the OddsShark NFL Database.

Meanwhile, Miami has seen the over go 8-3 in its past 11 games going into a bye. However, the under is 7-2 in the last nine meetings between the Dolphins and Jets.

The Vikings have done well before their bye week over the past six years, going a perfect 6-0 SU and ATS. The NFL odds have them listed as 6.5-point road underdogs visiting the Denver Broncos (3-0), who are 5-0 SU and ATS in their last five games played during the month of October.

Something has to give there, obviously, as Minnesota will be playing away from home for the first time since falling 20-3 to the San Francisco 49ers as three-point road favorites in the season opener.

Denver has won its previous two games on the road in prime-time matchups against the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions following a 19-13 win against the Baltimore Ravens as 4.5-point home favorites in their season opener.

The Panthers have seen the under cash in their last six games prior to a bye as they visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-2) in an NFC South matchup as three-point betting favorites.

Carolina is 6-2 ATS in its past eight divisional road games while Tampa Bay will be trying to break a 10-game home losing streak in which the team has covered the spread just twice.
