Boise State-Fresno State: A Gameday Opinion on Bronco Game Day
Fresno State has been considered a rival for Boise State because they play tough, well-coached football. Sure, they have had success against the Broncos, but mostly against other foes. Pat Hill’s Bulldogs, at present 2-0, have accomplished that feat with a brand new quarterback at the helm. The Fresno QB has been nothing short of brilliant and no doubt has left fans saying, "Tom Brandstater who?"
However, Brandstater had very successful seasons as a Bulldog and began a new entry in his resume as a sixth-round draft choice to the Denver Broncos in the 2009 NFL draft, and he is doing pretty well according to the media. It takes good coaching to help players advance from college to the pro game.
Having said that, a good coach prepares his team for the incoming opponent, regardless of how many times they have played one another. Finishing that thought, at the close of the game know that a good coach will not allow his players to go on and on about the end result, win or lose.
Boise State coach Chris Petersen allows his players to celebrate (or otherwise) their game for 24 hours. After that it’s on to the next opponent. The Bronco-Bulldog match will be in play in three more hours in Fresno, California. There is a lot of respect from both coaches regarding the so-called rivalry.
Coach Pete said he would have rather played Fresno later on in the season because they are always tough early on. Coach Pat said in recall of his recent game against BCS opponent Wisconsin that there was no comparison between the Badgers defense and that of the Boise State Broncos. He believes the Broncos are far superior.
In tonight’s game the Bulldogs are hoping to do what other teams recently have not been able to do—score a touchdown. The Bronco D will attempt to continue denying this and all other opponents that very thing.
Boise State has entered into a different realm of football. They are playing the best defensive play the Broncos have ever played and have done so two years in a row, and this years team is playing even better than the last and have accomplished that with the addition of new players.
The Broncos don’t rebuild, they reload, and that’s another story. Go Broncos!
