Auburn Tigers vs. West Virginia Mountaineers: A Week Three Prediction

Two weeks under our belt and two convincing wins over two mediocre football teams. Yes, we seem to be re-writing the rushing record books, but the quality of the competition just doesn't tell us much about Auburn at this point.

La. Tech's loss to Navy demonstrated that they just aren't nearly as strong this year as they were last year when they beat Mississippi State. Speaking of MSU, their performance against Vandy this weekend will tell us just how good (or bad) they are this year as well.

I really do LOVE what Auburn has done to date. Gaining 500+ yards in total offense in both games, TWO backs with over 100 yards rushing in both games and last week with two backs and a receiver over 100 yards—what's not to love?

The competition gets considerably tougher this Saturday night and we will learn just a little more about these 2009 Tigers.

While West Virginia is not the same team as it was during the Pat White years—they are still a solid, fast and good team with a quarterback that is getting the job done through the air and on the ground. Of course, Noel Devine (who absolutely lit Auburn up last year) returns to add even more weapons to their arsenal.

Here is the way I see the game breaking down:

• Quarterback—WVU
• Running backs—AU
• O-Line—AU
• Receivers—WVU
• Defense—EVEN

While I like our chances in this game I truly believe it will come down to special teams play as BOTH teams have struggled in this area through their first two games. Also, the team that limits mistakes and penalties and/or is able to capitalize on them will win the game.

Auburn's at home which will give us HUGE lift, so as I stated earlier, I like our chances and believe the winner of this game finally breaks in to the top 25.


Prediction: AU 38, WVU 27
