Manchester United-Manchester City: Manchester Derby Preview

Andrew JordanSep 18, 2009

On Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, the city of Manchester will be treated to the Manchester Derby, as Man City will travel to Old Trafford to take on Man United.

Since the last time that these two titans met on May 10 (in which United won 2-0), both teams have undergone tremendous transformations.

For Manchester United, they lost Cristiano Ronaldo and they also lost Carlos Tevez, who left to the Eastlands from United in July.

For Manchester City, they have become one of the strongest clubs in the world since acquiring their tremendous wealth in October, and showed during the summer transfer window as they got players such as Gareth Berry, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Joleon Lescott among others, but signing Carlos Tevez from Man United was the biggest move that they made in the offseason.

After Tevez was signed by City, City put up a huge banner which pictured Tevez and said "Welcome to Manchester" and showed a picture of Tevez scoring a goal with a blue background. The poster has caused much outrage from United, as they claimed that it was unnecessary and Carlos Tevez isn't new at all to Manchester.

However, its time for some football between these two clubs, and here is a preview of the Manchester Derby.

Manchester United

Despite their losses this summer, Manchester United have gotten off to a great start in the Premier League this season, as they have already beaten clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham, and they also won their first Champions League match of the year in a 1-0 victory over Besiktas in Istanbul on Tuesday night.

However, United are getting ready for maybe their biggest home match of the year when City travel to Old Trafford to take on the Red Devils on Saturday, and here is what Manchester United must do in order to be successful.

First, United have to feed off the energy from their recent success and the energy of the Old Trafford crowd on Saturday in order to be ready for the match.

Second, United must find an alternative way to get offensive pressure than just from Wayne Rooney, as he will be City's No. 1 priority during this match.

And finally, United will need to prevent City from getting a lead of any type, as that could inspire City to win the match.

If Manchester United could do all of this, they will have a great chance of succeeding in this important match against their archrival.

Manchester City

After their tremendous offseason signing stars, Manchester City have shown us that they are now a strong contender to win the English Premier League title this year and for many more seasons to come, as they have gotten to their greatest ever start in the Premier League this year, winning all four of their Premier League matches so far.

However, City will now face their most daunting task of the season as they travel across town to Old Trafford to take on their archrival, and here is what Manchester City must do in order to succeed in this match.

First, they will need to find alternate forms of offense, as both Robinho and Adebayor will miss this match, and Carlos Tevez could miss the match due to injury, which will make City try to find offense from an alternate source.

Second, City must shut down Wayne Rooney, as he is proving himself to be one of the best players in the world now that Ronaldo is gone, and is finding ways to score goals and putting Manchester United in position for victory every match.

And finally, City must realize that in order to be the best, they will need to beat the best, and Manchester United are the best, so a victory here could truly make them a major contender for winning the Premier League title.

If Manchester City could do all of this, they will have a great chance of returning to the Eastlands as one of the best clubs in the Premier League with a result other than a loss.

Finally, this year's Manchester Derby will be one of the most fiercest matches between the two in recent memory, and we all will be treated to what will be a very memorable match between two archrivals.
