Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt Feud Must Feature Hell in a Cell Match

Ryan DilbertSep 29, 2015

Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt have arrived at a place in their violent, tumultuous journey where only a Hell in a Cell match makes sense as an endpoint.

Their latest battle came in front of howling fans in Buffalo, New York, as the two rivals left each other spent, beaten, their eyes closed, their bruised bodies atop a broken announce table. A match morphed into a brawl in what most certainly felt like the precursor to a climactic Hell in a Cell clash.

The creation of the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view has forced WWE's hand at times. Feuds have been hurried along into that steel structure.

Enemies sharing mild animosity have fought inside a cage designed to house wars of the squared circle.

CM Punk and Ryback had no business being in the Hell in a Cell in 2012. Randy Orton and Sheamus' rivalry in 2010 wasn't befitting of The Devil's Playground. That's far from the case with Wyatt and Reigns.

The timing is just right for them to climb inside that steel battlefield. Their level of aggression and the arc of their story together beg for the carnage that the The Cell promises.

Reigns should be starving for revenge at this point.

Wyatt sent him tumbling off a ladder back in June, preventing The Juggernaut from seizing the Money in the Bank briefcase. The Eater of Worlds would then proceed to torture Reigns, teasing that he would hurt the hero's daughter and lurking around him during his matches.

The bad blood between them hasn't always been cultivated as regularly as it should, but there's plenty to draw on when building toward a Hell in a Cell matchup.

Wyatt made a hooded Luke Harper attack Reigns at Battleground. He welcomed Braun Strowman into his flock and then directed him to crush the life out of both Reigns and his brother-in-arms, Dean Ambrose.

The Eater of Worlds then made Strowman trample Reigns' cousin, Jimmy Uso. The madman stood pleased with himself as his beast drained the air from Uso.

And after Monday's Raw, there are few places to take this feud.

Reigns finally got a true one-on-one opportunity against Wyatt. The two were so consumed with destroying each other that they either ignored or didn't care about the referee counting to 10 as they brawled outside the ring.

This was not a matchit was a two-man riot.

Wyatt flung a WWE employee at Reigns. He flung himself at the powerhouse, tearing down the guardrail in the process. Reigns responded by spearing Wyatt into an announce table.

Raw then closed with the image of the two warriors on their backs, too fatigued to continue the fight.

You can't follow that up with a standard bout. Another six-man tag between them would be a disappointment.

The only logical move is to let them up the level of violence as much as the PG-TV rating will allow. That means ending this story and this rivalry in the upcoming pay-per-view's second Hell in a Cell match.

In addition to all the sense it would make from a narrative standpoint, it would also creates a much-needed opportunity for two emerging stars. Undertaker and Brock Lesnar will get the benefit of the Hell in a Cell stipulation, but they don't need huge moments in their careers as much as these two men.

It would be the first trip inside The Devil's Playground for both Wyatt and Reigns.

Like with Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins last year, the bout will be a showcase for their talents. It will make them the secondary main event for the night. It will also allow them to create some of the show's biggest moments and most jaw-dropping highlights.

If WWE wants to keep Reigns moving upward or to cement Wyatt's status as a fearsome monster, a victory in the Hell in a Cell would be a powerful tool to accomplish either task.

The company has pushed two enemies to the precipice of chaos. It must now make full use of that, letting them tear each other's flesh from their bones in the Hell in a Cell.
