Charles Moves into 3rd Place on Chiefs' All-Time Touchdowns List

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 29, 2015

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles moved into third place on his franchise's all-time total touchdowns list during Monday's 38-28 loss to the Green Bay Packers, with a trio of scores giving him 62 for his career, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Having passed former running back Larry Johnson's 61, Charles only trails tight end Tony Gonzalez (76) and running back Priest Holmes (83) on the franchise list.

Despite finding the end zone three times, Charles didn't have his best game Monday night, gaining 49 yards on 11 carries and 33 yards on five receptions.

Each of his three touchdowns came on the ground—from nine, seven and four yards out.

He has 42 rushing touchdowns and 20 receiving touchdowns in his career, displaying a degree of versatility that's rare even for modern running backs.

The other players atop the Chiefs' touchdowns list largely relied on just one type of touchdown. Gonzalez scored each of his 76 on receptions, Holmes scored 76 of his 83 on carries and Johnson scored 55 of his 61 on carries.

Now just 21 touchdowns shy of Holmes' 83 for the franchise record, the 28-year-old Charles could feasibly pass the mark as soon as early next season, having scored 38 times in 33 games since the beginning of the 2013 campaign.

His heavy usage near the goal line in recent seasons contrasts with his early-career usage, as Charles scored a modest 24 touchdowns through his first 65 NFL games—despite putting up back-to-back seasons (2009 and 2010) with 1,400-plus scrimmage yards during that span.
