NFL Week 4 Opening Odds: Steelers Underdogs; Raiders, Packers Betting Favorites

OddsShark.comSep 28, 2015

The Baltimore Ravens are just 2-6 both straight up and against the spread in their last eight games on the road against fellow AFC North teams, but they're solid favorites at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark for their Thursday night matchup with the rival Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field.

The Ravens, winless on the season at 0-3 both straight up and ATS, could be catching a big break Thursday. They'll be taking on a Steelers team forced to use Michael Vick at quarterback, as starter Ben Roethlisberger is expected to miss at least a month after suffering a knee injury Sunday, per Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Because of Roethlisberger's injury, Baltimore opened as a two-point road favorite against Pittsburgh, and the line rose to 2.5 and three points at the sportsbooks by the end of Monday night. The Steelers are 3-0 both straight up and ATS in their last three games as home underdogs and 6-1 straight up in their last seven games against the Ravens in October, according to the Odds Shark NFL database.

Week 4 of the NFL season also boasts some international flavor, as the New York Jets will take on the Miami Dolphins at London's Wembley Stadium. That game opened as a pick 'em at the sportsbooks, but early action has moved the Jets to 2.5-point favorites.

Totals bettors will be watching that one closely, as the over has paid out in seven of the last nine games between the AFC East teams.

Other divisional matchups for Week 4 include Carolina at Tampa Bay, Jacksonville at Indianapolis, Philadelphia at Washington and St. Louis at Arizonawith the Panthers opening as three-point favorites, the Colts opening as 8.5-point favorites, the Eagles opening as three-point favorites and the Cardinals opening as six-point favorites.

The Oakland Raiders, surprisingly 2-1 both straight up and ATS on the season, opened as one-point road favorites against the winless Chicago Bears for their game Sunday, with the line moving to make Oakland a three-point favorite by Monday night. Chicago is an ugly 4-15-1 ATS in its last 20 games at home.

And the two biggest favorites on the board for Week 4 are the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks, with those two teams both opening as 9.5-point favorites against the San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions, respectively.

Green Bay is 16-2 straight up and 14-4 ATS in its last 18 games in the month of October, and the Niners are 1-7 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Seahawks are 27-2 straight up in their last 29 games at home heading into their Monday night matchup with a Lions team that has started the season 0-3 both straight up and ATS.
