Wright Wants to Leave 49ers

Monday, Sept. 28

Wright is yet to see the field for the 49ers this season and was listed as inactive for the third straight game Sunday. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com noted the cornerback “is seeking a trade or his release” after he didn’t appear in San Francisco’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Wright is clearly frustrated with his position on the 49ers, and this is not the first time he made headlines this season. According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Wright tweeted, “Politics as usual” 10 minutes before the inactives for Sunday’s contest were announced and then proceeded to delete his tweet.

While Wright has not caught on with the 49ers, the former third-round draft pick played in 44 career games the last four seasons for the San Diego Chargers, including 14 last year. He boasts 129 career tackles and picked off a pass and notched four passes defended in the 2013 playoffs.

He has postseason experience, can hit in run support, demonstrated solid instincts with the ball in the air during his tenure in San Diego and has solid speed to stay with receivers (4.46 40-yard dash). Perhaps a change of scenery to a different team where he wouldn’t be behind Tramaine Brock, Kenneth Acker and Keith Reaser on the depth chart would serve him well.
