Franco Baldini and Tottenham Part Company: Latest Details and Reaction
Tottenham Hotspur announced on Monday they have parted company with technical director Franco Baldini after two years at the club.
Spurs released the following statement on their official club website: “We can confirm that Franco Baldini has left the Club by mutual consent. Franco joined us as Technical Director in June 2013 from AS Roma where he was General Director. He leaves us now to spend time outside of club football. We wish him all the best for the future."
As reported by Goal, the Italian was the man who oversaw Tottenham’s ill-fated summer spending in 2013 after the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for a world-record fee. The likes of Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Christian Eriksen and Vlad Chiriches were signed on his watch.

According to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports, Baldini’s role at the club had been reduced of late, making his departure an inevitability:
Baldini previously held similar roles with Real Madrid and Roma before joining Spurs in 2013. After overseeing a massive summer of spending that year, Tottenham’s poor form, the failure of the majority of the new recruits and the sacking of then-manager Andre Villas-Boas saw Baldini also reportedly offer his resignation, but it was rejected.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, it seems as though the club are looking to go in a different direction and it’ll be intriguing to see whether Baldini is replaced by Spurs in the weeks to come.
