College Football Week 5 Opening Odds: Alabama Not Favored on Early Betting Lines

OddsShark.comSep 27, 2015

The Alabama Crimson Tide have been listed as betting favorites in each of their last 72 games, but that streak is in jeopardy this week according to the opening college football odds for Week 5 at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark.

Saturday's game between the Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs opened as a pick'em at the sportsbooks, with Georgia up to a 1.5-point to two-point home favorite for the contest by Sunday night. Alabama is coming off an easy 34-0 win over Louisiana-Monroe, but it failed to cover the 37.5-point spread in that game after getting upset in a 43-37 loss to Mississippi as a nine-point favorite the week before.

That has the Crimson Tide sitting at 3-1 straight up but 1-3 against the spread on the season, while Georgia is 4-0 SU and 2-2 ATS after rolling to a 48-6 win over Southern last week but failing to cover a huge 50-point spread.

Overall Alabama is 11-2 SU in its last 13 games, but 0-3 ATS in its last three games on the road in October according to the OddsShark College Football Database. Georgia is 11-1 SU in its last 12 games at home and is up to No. 8 in the AP Top 25. Alabama is at No. 13.

The Oregon Ducks have dropped out of the AP Top 25 for the first time since 2009 thanks to their 62-20 pounding at the hands of Utah last week as a 10-point favorite. The Ducks, now 2-2 SU and 1-3 ATS this season, opened as a 12-point road favorite against Colorado this week.

Top-ranked Ohio State opened as a 17.5-point road favorite against Indiana for Week 5, while No. 2 Michigan State opened as a 24.5-point home favorite against Purdue. The Spartans are 6-0 SU in their last six games against the Boilermakers, while Purdue is 1-6 ATS in its last seven games overall.

Meanwhile, in the other ranked matchups this week Oklahoma opened as a 7.5-point home favorite against West Virginia, Texas A&M opened as a 6-point home favorite against Mississippi State, Mississippi opened as a 6.5-point road favorite against Florida, and the Notre Dame vs. Clemson matchup at Memorial Stadium opened as a pick'em.

Notre Dame is 10-1 SU in its last 11 games in the month of October, but 0-3 ATS in its last three games on the road. The total has gone under for totals bettors in five of Notre Dame's last seven road games against ACC teams and in six of Clemson's last seven games.
