Julio Jones Sets Record with 34 Receptions Through 1st 3 Games

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 28, 2015

Already at 34 receptions this season, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones has set a new NFL record for most catches by a player through his team's first three games, per Rand Getlin of NFL Network.

Jones is also the first player in league history to record 135 or more receiving yards in each of his team's first three games, per Getlin.

With 34 catches for 440 yards and four touchdowns to date, he is incredibly on pace to finish with 181 catches for 2,347 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Although he obviously won't be able to maintain that pace, Jones could make a real run at the single-season records for receptions and receiving yards, with the latter held by former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison (143 in 2002) and the former set by Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson (1,964 in 2012).

Jones unsurprisingly leads the NFL in both catches and receiving yards, and he's tied with New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Travis Benjamin for second place with four touchdown catches, behind only Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (five).

Of course, Jones still has plenty of competition for the receiving title, with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown sitting just four yards back at 436.

The gap for receptions is a bit wider, with Jones four ahead of New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman (30).
