How Bushrod's Return Impacts Bears
This is Bushrod’s ninth year in the league (the third with the Bears), and he has two Pro Bowls under his belt.
Bushrod’s ability to carve lanes up front was one reason Football Outsiders ranked the Bears as the ninth-best run-blocking offensive line in the first two weeks of the season. They have fallen to 17th in run blocking but remain at 10th in pass protection ahead of Week 8.
Mullin noted Charles Leno came in at left tackle in Bushrod’s place. Leno is a former seventh-round draft pick (2014) who only started one game in his rookie campaign and is not the proven force the two-time Pro Bowler has been for Chicago.
The Bears are searching for consistency on offense and will benefit greatly from Bushrod's return.
