Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar's Post-Week 3 Fantasy Advice

Timothy RappSep 27, 2015

DeMarco Murray who?

That was the question Dallas Cowboys fans—and a few fantasy owners, too—were asking after the team's first half against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, as starting tailback Joseph Randle had already accumulated more than 100 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns.

He also made some history, per the team's official Twitter account:

While Randle's numbers were impressive, Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram noted Randle only notched two yards on his final 11 carries after gaining 85 on the first two.

Alongside Randle, Darren McFadden also scored a touchdown, while Lance Dunbar posted 100 receiving yards.

Such is the conundrum for fantasy owners when it comes to the Dallas backfield. While Randle is the starter and is going to see the most touches, it's clear the team wants both McFadden and Dunbar to have significant roles in the offense. With McFadden providing a change of pace and Dunbar established as the third-down back, Randle simply isn't going to get workhorse touches.

That makes him, at best, a low-end RB2 in deeper leagues or a flex consideration, while McFadden and Dunbar are nothing more than handcuffs. Sunday was fruitful for this backfield, but for fantasy owners, there aren't enough touches to go around to make any one of these players an elite option.
