Gerald Wallace Waived by 76ers: Latest Comments, Reaction

Joe PantornoSep 26, 2015

The Philadelphia 76ers waived veteran forward Gerald Wallace on Saturday, according to ESPN's Marc Stein

Wallace, who is preparing for his 16th season in the league, will now be looking for his fourth different team to play for this offseason.

After finishing his second season with the Boston Celtics, the team dealt Wallace to the Golden State Warriors in a move that sent former All-Star David Lee to Boston back in July. Less than a week later, the Warriors traded Wallace the 76ers for Jason Thompson, per ESPN's Brian Windhorst

Wallace is also entering the final year of his four-year, $40 million deal he signed with the Brooklyn Nets back in 2012. He is set to make a little over $10.1 million during 2015-16 as the 76ers are still going to absorb his contract.

Bleacher Report's Sean Highkin points out Philadelphia isn't just doing this with Wallace:

The 76ers waived JaVale McGee back in March after playing just six games with the team, and he didn't surrender any of his $12 million salary for this upcoming season, per USA Today (h/t Stein). McGee is now with Dallas playing with a one-year deal worth $1.2 million.

Wallace, now 33 years old, has a career average of 11.9 points per game, but he hasn't scored over 7.7 in each of the past three seasons. Teams that are looking for a gritty veteran presence to come off the bench or even provide a spot start or two might find interest in Wallace, who will have to prove he is still capable of producing.
