Okafor Uncertain for Friday's Preseason Game

Wednesday, Oct. 14

According to the Philadelphia Daily News' Bob Cooney, Okafor has fallen behind on conditioning due to the knee injury, which means the big man may not be able to play his full complement of minutes when the team tips off regular-season play against the Boston Celtics on Oct. 28.

If there's good news for the Sixers it's that, according to Cooney, Okafor believes the injury is "minor."

Philadelphia selected Okafor with the third pick in the 2015 NBA draft, opting to take the best talent available in lieu of filling a pressing need at point guard.

"You don’t see players like Jah come along very often in this era," Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie said after drafting Okafor, per CSNPhilly.com's John Finger. "They don’t come along very often where you’re looking to feed them over and over again and they’ve been commanding double-teams since they were 12 years old and have been learning to deal with them."

While getting a big man for the third straight year may not have been the most logical move, Okafor offered the Sixers a polished offensive centerpiece upon arrival.

Given the Sixers' dearth of dependable scoring options—particularly on the blocks—any long-term absence from the rookie would rob Philadelphia of its primary source of offensive consistency.
