Jay Cutler Injury Update: Bears QB Will Not Play in Week 3 vs. Seahawks

Days after Chicago Bears head coach John Fox provided some hope for his starting quarterback playing in Week 3, it was announced that Jay Cutler will not suit up Sunday.   

According to Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times, Cutler and wide receiver Alshon Jeffery are officially inactive this week at Seattle. 

There have been conflicting signals about Cutler's status after he left last week's loss against the Arizona Cardinals in the second quarter. ESPN.com's Adam Schefter reported Monday, Sept. 21, that the beleaguered quarterback would miss at least two weeks with a strained hamstring. 

However, speaking to reporters Wednesday, per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, Fox simply said if Cutler is healthy, "he starts, if not, Jimmy (Clausen) will start."

Two days after that non-response, Jimmy Clausen now knows he will take the snaps against an angry Seattle team that's playing its first home game of the season after losing back-to-back road games. The Seahawks will have star safety Kam Chancellor back following a prolonged contract holdout, as well. 

Injuries are piling up for the 32-year-old Cutler, who has now missed at least one game in six consecutive seasons. Clausen did start one game for the Bears last year against the Detroit Lions, throwing for 181 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in a 20-14 loss. 

However, Clausen will also be playing this game without Jeffery. His weapons are limited and the Seahawks will be like sharks circling prey, which is not good for a team looking to secure its first win of the season.
