Daily Fantasy Football September 26: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down

Steven CookSep 26, 2015

Two weeks and counting of sample space doesn't give us a whole lot of 2015 NFL regular-season results to pull from, but it's just enough to pinpoint players heading in the right—or wrong—directions entering Week 3.

While an uninspiring Week 1 performance isn't often worth fretting about, a handful of supposedly dangerous options in the DFS universe are falling flat in the opening weeks. On the opposite end of the spectrum, breakout performers have stepped up to take the spotlight.

From injuries to depth-chart shakeups, daily fantasy is a revolving door that players constantly walk in and out of. That being said, let's take a look at players to buy or sell after two weeks.

Stock Up

RB Latavius Murray, Oakland Raiders ($5,800)

A game-changer in regard to DFS running backs is finding one who features regularly as a pass-catcher and is still being the offense's top back. Latavius Murray checks off both of those boxes for the Oakland Raiders.

Murray's 26 touches for 109 yards and a score through two games is impressive on its own, but his receiving puts him over the top. He has 10 catches for 58 yards so far, which is massive in DraftKings' PPR format.

Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave went as far as calling his receiving chemistry with Derek Carr "a bright spot," per ESPN.com's Bill Williamson. Assuming that continues along with his workhorse role against the Cleveland Browns, Murray is an attractive option in DFS.

WR Brandon Marshall, New York Jets ($6,200)

The New York Jets' offense has chewed up and spit out some supremely talented players trying to find a place. But 2015 looks to be a resurgent year, and Brandon Marshall is a central reason why.

The 31-year-old has dialed back the clock, playing some of his best football. He went off for 101 yards on seven catches and a score in Week 2 against Indianapolis, giving him a touchdown and at least six grabs in each game so far.

Marshall is one of the only reliable options for Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who should air it out again Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles' struggling secondary.

WR Leonard Hankerson, Atlanta Falcons ($3,800)

Julio Jones is doing it all in the Falcons offense, but with Matt Ryan slinging the ball around, there's plenty of room for Leonard Hankerson to stuff the stat sheet as well.

Sunday's win over the New York Giants was a reflection of that, as he went for 77 yards and a score to help propel the Falcons. Even more impressive were his 11 targets on the day.

That touchdown was Hankerson's first in nearly two years, which indicates he could be in for more, as Matt Haley of the Atlanta Falcons reported:

A matchup with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3 isn't ideal, but Hankerson should draw plenty of interest this weekend forward with his increasing work rate.

Stock Down

WR Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons ($5,000)

Hankerson's sudden breakout has left a lack of touches for the man who used to be the Falcons' go-to guy on offense.

Roddy White started the 2015 season on a high note with 84 yards in Week 1, but that only came on four catches. As for Week 2, he put up a goose egg, with no catches and only one target.

White's veteran status still has him with a price tag of $5,000, which isn't justified if he's the third option in the Falcons pass attack.

QB Sam Bradford, Philadelphia Eagles ($6,300)

Sam Bradford's trade to Philadelphia was supposed to be a career-changer for him. It still may turn out that way, but it certainly hasn't started like it.

Bradford put up over 18 DK points in Week 1 but threw it 52 times (not ideal), including two picks. He threw two more interceptions in Week 2, barely scratching the double-digit plateau despite a nearly $7,000 price tag.

His price has gone down for Week 3, but more of the same should be expected against the New York Jets' stingy defense.

RB Tre Mason, St. Louis Rams ($4,300)

The window of opportunity opened and closed in one week for Tre Mason.

After missing Week 1 with an injury, he seemed to get the backfield back for Week 2 against the Washington Redskins. He did nothing with it, getting only nine touches and going for a total of 30 yards.

Mason should still have a role from here on out, but it will be greatly diminished, as rookie Todd Gurley is set to make his debut in Week 3, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Until we see Mason put up points with Gurley also in the fold, fantasy players should shy away from him.
