We Remember: Terrell Owens Tackled Midfield After Celebrating over Dallas Star

Arman WaliaSep 24, 2015

On this day 15 years ago, football fans witnessed something so incredible that it will forever go down in history—and it didn't even happen during a play.

On Sept. 24, 2000, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Terrell Owens celebrated a touchdown by running to midfield and standing over the Dallas Cowboys star. Obviously, this pissed off Cowboys players to the max. So on the next touchdown, Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith mocked Owens. He ran to midfield and slammed the ball down on the star while staring at the 49ers' bench.

This is where things got fun.

In the fourth quarter, Owens ran a fade and caught the ball from quarterback Jeff Garcia (holy TBT). T.O. being T.O., he sprinted to midfield to slam the ball over the star, but Cowboys safety George Teague leveled him. Owens eventually stood over the star after the play, completing what he set out to do.

Now, just imagine if this happened today. Fined

#NeverForget

On a side note, Owens, who eventually played for Dallas from 2006 to 2008, recently expressed interest in returning to the NFL and playing for the Cowboys. (Eyes emoji.)
