USA vs. Ireland 2015 World Lacrosse Championships Game Date and Start Time

Joe PantornoSep 24, 2015

The group stage of the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship is now officially complete, and the quarterfinal matchups are set.

With the three-time defending gold and silver medalists in Canada and the Iroquois Nationals waiting for the winners in the semifinals, the remaining four teams don't have an easy test ahead of them.

Finishing 2-2 in four games during group play, the United States is one of those sides trying to gain a medal for the fourth-straight tournament. But they'll have to get through Ireland first.

USA vs. Ireland

When: Thursday, Sept. 24

In five games, Ireland went 3-2 with both losses coming against Israel, another quarterfinalist that will be taking on the Czech Republic.

They're led by Stephen Keogh, who recorded 13 goals of Ireland's 46 goals in the first five games of the tournament.

However, Ireland has had a favorable draw, avoiding the United States, Canada and the Iroquois Nationals in the group stage. They'll be tested on Thursday against the USA.

The United States have been tested in their four games this tournament. They were handled by the Iroquois and Canada while defeating the Czech Republic and England.

There also has been an inconsistency when it comes to scoring. Against the weaker opponents of the Czech Republic and England, Garrett Thul has recorded six goals. In the other two games, he's scored none.

Technically, that bodes well for the United States but if they do manage to get past Ireland, the Iroquois Nationals will be waiting for them, an opponent that has already shut him out.

The USA will need the likes of Kevin Buchanan, Joe Walters and Joe Resetarits to get on to the scoresheet as well. They have the talent to get past Ireland; it's the semifinal that is going to prove an intensive test.

If they're able to slow down Keogh and find reliable scoring, the United States should win comfortably against Ireland by at least five goals.
