Liverpool were almost involved in the shock of the round, being taken to penalties by Carlisle United, but they now progress to play Bournemouth.

The ties are to be played on the week of October 26. Here is the full draw:

Manchester Cityvs.Crystal Palace
Liverpoolvs.Bournemouth
Manchester Unitedvs.Middlesbrough
Evertonvs.Norwich City
Southamptonvs.Aston Villa
Sheffield Wednesdayvs.Arsenal
Hull Cityvs.Leicester City
Stoke Cityvs.Chelsea

If Manchester City see the League Cup as a steppingstone to trophy success this season, they will have to achieve their goal against strong opposition after being drawn against Crystal Palace.

Eagles manager Alan Pardew saw his team cruise past local rivals Charlton Athletic 4-1 on Wednesday night, with his side looking improved during every contest they play.

City comfortably beat Sunderland on their travels, destroying the Black Cats 4-1 at the Stadium of Light, and looked the most impressive of the big teams left in the competition.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 23: Wayne Rooney of Manchester United scores the opening goal past Josh Yorwerth of Ipswich Town during the Capital One Cup Third Round match between Manchester United and Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on September 23, 2015

Manchester United took care of business against Ipswich Town, as Wayne Rooney got back on the goal trail for the Red Devils. The Old Trafford superclub now welcome championship contenders Middlesbrough in a draw that will please United manager Louis van Gaal.

Arsenal won the north London bragging rights against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, beating their derby neighbours 2-1 at White Hart Lane.

The Gunners now face a different type of challenge as they travel to Sheffield Wednesday, who performed heroics to dispose of a poor Newcastle United.

Chelsea hardly broke a sweat to find themselves in the next round, beating Walsall 4-1. However, the current holders must visit Stoke to stay in this year's competition in an all-Premier League affair.

United will be pleased to once again face championship opposition as the League Cup looks like their best chance of a trophy, but with the Premier League's top sides all still in the competition, it is impossible to predict who has the advantage going into the next round.
