Twitter Reacts as Arsenal Beat Tottenham in North London Derby

Tom WebbSep 23, 2015

Arsenal made the short trip to White Hart Lane on Wednesday to face Tottenham in the first North London derby of the season.

For the Gunners, Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain lined up in a game refereed by Andre Marriner, who mistakenly sent off Gibbs instead of the latter at Chelsea in 2014:

With high expectations of another cracking derby, the game got off to a slow start:

"

You know what I said about always being a cracker... 0-0

Then Arsenal went ahead through a surprise source:

If Spurs were going to get back into the game, their most likely opening appeared to be down the left, where Arsenal's right-back was struggling:

"

Debuchy's Branislav Ivanovic impression is spot on.

For the Gunners, Oxlade-Chamberlain was the standout performer in an unspectacular first half:

After the break, the hosts thought they had levelled through Harry Kane, only for the goal to be chalked off for offside. Some fans weren't convinced:

"

Is that lino Claude from Arsenal Fan TV? Bit suspect.

But they didn't have to wait much longer, as Arsenal defender Calum Chambers diverted the ball into his own net:

Like Mathieu Debuchy, Chambers was struggling a touch:

"

Imagine Eric Dier, if he lost his tackling ability, his physical presence, and his outstanding defending. That's Callum Chambers.

However, that source may be biased.

Spurs pressed for a winner, but were left in shock when goal machine Mathieu Flamini hit a stunning first-time volley past Michel Vorm.

"

GOAL! FLAMINI AGAIN! THE WORLD HAS GONE INSANE!

"

Arsenal held on for a welcome win over their local rivals. Who needs strikers anyway?
