NFL Week 3 Picks: Predictions for Each Game's Odds and Over-Under Lines

Steven CookSep 23, 2015

Never one to keep from a flair for the dramatic, the NFL has produced unpredictability yet again as the 2015 season gets underway.

Raise your hand if you thought the Seattle Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts would start 0-2. Then keep it up if you thought the Jets and Falcons would be among the unbeaten.

That's what I thought.

Simply put, nobody could have predicted what has happened thus far in only two short weeks of the season. But that's not going to keep us from trying, as the opening two contests have shed light on what to expect from all 32 teams.

Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans

Welcome to the perfect opportunity to shake off that treacherous start, Andrew Luck.

Luck's Indianapolis Colts couldn't have scripted a more nightmare-like start to the regular season, falling to the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets in embarrassing displays. But a brief reprieve comes Sunday that should get them going, as they face the Tennessee Titans.

Marcus Mariota may have Tennessee on the upward trajectory, but its defense is still very susceptible. The Titans allowed two 50-plus-yard touchdowns to the Browns' Travis Benjamin last week, after a 46-yard touchdown by Tampa Bay in Week 1.

Look for T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief to torch an embattled Titans secondary.

On top of that, the Colts will be angry and looking to make amends for their poor start. Just listen to what head coach Chuck Pagano has to say, and you can tell they're ready to make a statement, per ESPN's Mike Wells.

"We have a really good football team," Pagano said. "It gets frustrating when you just shoot yourself in the foot, so to speak. I know we're better than we played, and we've seen glimpses of that. You have to do it on a consistent basis.

As Wells also noted, the Colts have an impressive seven-game winning streak over the Titans:

What's even more impressive is that Luck has been around for six of those, not losing to Tennessee once in his career. The last time he visited Nashville, he left with 393 passing yards and four touchdowns.

It won't take that much this time to get the first win of the season.

Prediction: Colts 31, Titans 20

Atlanta Falcons at Dallas Cowboys

Game No. 1 in a seemingly two-month (or more) period of possible futility is on the cards Sunday for the Dallas Cowboys, which could tell just how much this team will be lost without its two biggest stars.

One week after losing Dez Bryant for an extended period with a foot injury, star quarterback Tony Romo went down with a broken collarbone. It won't need surgery, as Romo himself reported on Twitter, but he should still be out awhile.

Brandon Weeden gets the ball for the Cowboys but won't have Bryant to throw to and has struggled in starting duty for his career, as Mark Lane of Fox Sports noted:

As for the Atlanta Falcons, they have started the season on a tear, taking it to two NFC East foes once thought to be serious postseason contenders. Atlanta drubbed Philadelphia for much of its season opener before a late comeback over the Giants.

The defense that held Atlanta back all season now looks formidable, with new head coach Dan Quinn at the helm. On the other end, Matt Ryan and Julio Jones have a pairing that no Cowboys secondary member can stop.

The Dallas defense has shined so far in 2015, but now having to do more of the heavy lifting, it won't be able to answer the call from Ryan and Jones.

Prediction: Falcons 21, Cowboys 17
