Romo Goes to Short-Term IR
Tuesday, Sept. 22
Per David Helman of the Cowboys' official website, the team announced it placed Romo on short-term injured reserve.
Per Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Romo will have to sit out eight weeks before he is allowed to return, making him eligible to play again in Week 11 against Miami on Nov. 22. NFL Network's Albert Breer reported the Cowboys are working out quarterbacks Tuesday.
Romo sustained this same injury back in the 2010 season and missed the final 10 games. If he follows that path, Dallas is looking at not having its starting quarterback under center before Dec. 7 against Washington.
Brandon Weeden took over for Romo against the Eagles, going 7-of-7 for 73 yards and one touchdown, but Romo's loss is the second major blow for Dallas in two weeks. Star receiver Dez Bryant suffered a foot injury in the opener that could keep him out 10 to 12 weeks, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.
A healthy Romo and Bryant make up one of the best quarterback-receiver duos in the NFL and played a key role in Dallas' renaissance last year.
Now, the Cowboys will have to tread water for at least two months and hope the rest of the division continues to look mediocre, allowing them to make another playoff push if/when Romo is able to return this season.
