Mandzukic Injured in Genoa Clash
Monday, September 21
The club confirmed the news via it's official website after the striker was substituted due to the injury in the 2-0 win over Genoa on Sunday. According to the Bianconeri, Mandzukic missed training on Monday and was "subjected to medical examinations."
They expanded on the nature of his injury and his expected recovery time: "The Croatian forward’s tests revealed a first-grade tear of the bicep femoris muscle in his right thigh, which will require a recovery period of 20 days."
Mandzukic arrived in the summer and has already scored twice for his new side, against Lazio in the Italian Supercoppa and the equaliser in Juventus' 2-1 Champions League win over Manchester City.
Losing the Croatian will undoubtedly be a blow as the Bianconeri have struggled in Serie A this season—the win over Genoa their first of the campaign.
The 29-year-old will likely miss Juventus' next four matches, which include a tricky trip to Napoli and a Champions League home match against Sevilla.
Fortunately for the Old Lady, the likes of Alvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala and Simone Zaza represent competent cover up top, so they should still be able to continue their bid to get their season back on track.
