Ryan Tannehill, Rishard Matthews, Jarvis Landry's Post-Week 2 Fantasy Advice

Alec NathanSep 20, 2015

The Miami Dolphins dropped Sunday's showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars, 23-20, but quarterback Ryan Tannehill and his primary receivers put up numbers that had fantasy owners drooling.

As the Dolphins fell to 1-1, here's how Tannehill, Jarvis Landry and Rishard Matthews performed:

Ryan Tannehill

A week after the Dolphins offense struggled to get going against the Washington Redskins, Tannehill kept the chains moving by completing 68.2 percent of his 44 passes.

The key, though, may have been Miami's inability to get anything going on the ground. As Lamar Miller sputtered to 14 yards on 10 carries, the Dolphins had to abandon their rushing attack. In fact, Tannehill finished with a team-high 17 rushing yards on three attempts.

Tannehill's QB1 status will be tested the next two weeks against the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets, but he's got several compelling weapons at his disposal to try to pick apart some of the AFC's most imposing defenses.

Jarvis Landry

Sunday confirmed what's been evident for a little while now: Jarvis Landry is Tannehill's favorite target.

While Landry didn't torch the Redskins a week ago, he was targeted a team-high 12 times. That trend continued Sunday against the Jaguars as Tannehill tossed the ball Landry's way on 10 occasions.

Working out of the slot, Landry has proved to be capable of getting open seemingly whenever he pleases. The touchdowns will come in due time, and when they do, fantasy owners will rejoice.

Owners should continue plugging Landry into their lineups as a surefire WR2 with borderline WR1 upside in PPR formats.

Rishard Matthews

Like Landry, Matthews didn't score Sunday. However, he did lead all Dolphins receivers with 115 yards and a 19.2 yard-per-catch average.

A 48-yard reception accounted for more than 41 percent of Matthews' total production against Jacksonville, but that shouldn't discourage owners from rostering him as a bench stash in deeper leagues.

Matthews was still targeted seven times—one more than last week—and the only receiver who saw more opportunities was Landry. With 149 yards and a touchdown through two weeks, Matthews is emerging as a sneaky waiver-wire option who could pay dividends down the line.
