Twitter Reacts as 'Bargain' Martial Helps Manchester United Beat Southampton

Tom WebbSep 20, 2015

Manchester United new boy Anthony Martial made the dream debut last week, when he scored against Liverpool within seconds of coming off the bench. But the youngster wasn't done there, as he scored twice more to help Louis van Gaal's men overcome Southampton at St. Mary's Stadium.

For the second week running, all the talk on Twitter was about the £36 million teenager:

"

Martial isn't messing about is he?! Not sure I can remember last time a player came with so many question marks & shut critics up so quick!

However, the afternoon had started badly for United, as they fell behind to Graziano Pelle's 13th-minute goal.

But they were to hit back before half-time, Martial getting his first of the match after an assist from Juan Mata, who appeared to be in an offside position.

Mata looked half a yard offside there, didn't he? Unfortunate for #Saintsfc.

Unlike the week before, Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler had a somewhat more reserved response to Martial's goal:

And it wasn't long before Martial had his second, slotting home after sloppy work from the Saints defence.

Another United man who had dominated the deadline-day debate then stepped up, as David De Gea produced a stunning save to preserve the lead.

Pelle scored again to ensure a nervy finish for United, but the Red Devils held on to claim an impressive victory—3-2, and United fans had found a new hero.
