Monday Night Football Week 2: TV Schedule, Live Stream for Jets vs. Colts

Jared JohnsonSep 21, 2015

Don't feel too bad about being wrong on most of your NFL Week 2 predictions. It happened to most of us, as many teams performed significantly better or worse than last week.

But there's still one more game left for you to look forward to (and maybe predict correctly!) Monday night between the New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts.

The Jets dominated the Cleveland Browns 31-10 at home in Week 1, forcing five turnovers and consistently scoring on short fields. Indianapolis struggled against the Buffalo Bills, losing 27-14 behind poor play in the trenches and an uneven performance from quarterback Andrew Luck.

So who has the edge Monday night? After looking at some information that will ensure you catch the game on television or via live stream, we'll examine a few reasons why each team could win and then come to a final prediction.

Monday Night Football Week 2 Viewing Info

Matchup: New York Jets (1-0) at Indianapolis Colts (0-1)

Time: 8:30 p.m. ET

Live Stream: WatchESPN

Why the Jets Will Win

Darrelle Revis is arguably the best cornerback in the NFL.

Despite their preseason billing as one of the league's top teams, the Colts are an extremely flawed squad, as they showed in Week 1 against the Bills.

Indianapolis is weak on the defensive line, making them vulnerable to any quarterback who appreciates a clean pocket (read: all of them) and physical running backs. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will thrive with extra time to throw, and running back Chris Ivory will wear down the Colts' weak defensive front. The loss of cornerbacks Greg Toler and Darius Butler means Jets pass-catchers could come down with a few more grabs than they might otherwise.

Ivory is good to go for Monday night, by the way, after injuring his groin in practice early last week, per CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora:

On the other side of the ball, New York plays a similar blitz-happy defense to Buffalo's, which forced two Luck interceptions in Week 1. The Jets caused five turnovers against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday, and while Johnny Manziel is no Luck, even a slight regression to two or three defensive takeaways bodes well for head coach Todd Bowles' squad.

Luck's favorite target, T.Y. Hilton, bruised his knee in the second half against the Bills and should be good to go, per ESPN.com's Mike Wells. However, it's never good to head into a matchup with Jets shutdown cornerback Darrelle Revis dinged up, so New York should feel good about its ability to keep the Colts' best receiver contained.

Why the Colts Will Win

Andrew Luck may make mistakes on occasion, but the good still far outweighs the bad.

The main reason the Colts could win is Luck, who is still an elite quarterback despite a rough Week 1 performance (26-of-49 passing for 243 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions).

Chances are he'll be more comfortable on his home field in Indianapolis with the crowd behind him. The Colts are also an excellent bounce-back team, with a 14-1 record following losses since they drafted their franchise quarterback in 2012. And while the Jets are undoubtedly a strong blitzing team, they aren't quite at the Bills' level, which should give Luck a bit more time to find his receivers.

Head coach Chuck Pagano also seems to have learned his lesson with running back Frank Gore, who the Colts inexplicably abandoned after a nice eight-yard run on the first play of Week 1. Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star noted after the game that Pagano regretted that he didn't go to Gore more early on:

The Hilton-Revis matchup might not look good on paper for Indianapolis, but New York still has plenty of other weapons to worry about.

With No. 2 cornerback Antonio Cromartie questionable due to a knee injury, according to ESPN.com's Rich Cimini, Andre Johnson looks poised for a big game in his home debut with the Colts. Receivers Donte Moncrief and Phillip Dorsett have speed that could cause problems, and tight ends Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener are threats to get some serious yardage in the middle of the field and in the red zone.

Fitzpatrick under center and Ivory taking the carries does appear to be slightly less formidable of a combination than Tyrod Taylor and LeSean McCoy, as well.

The Verdict

This one should be interesting for most of, if not all of the game. The Colts might even fall a touchdown or two behind, as they've tended to do in the Luck era.

In the end, however, I have a hard time picking against the resilient Colts and their offensive weapons at home. Their 21-5 record at Lucas Oil Stadium (regular season and playoffs) since Luck's drafting versus the Jets' 7-17 road mark in the same time period is significant.

And if Sunday's slate told us anything, it's that Week 1 results aren't the best basis for making up your mind about a team. For that reason, I'm going with the squad that's proved to be one of the better AFC teams over the past few years over one who has yet to prove itself.

Prediction: Colts 30, Jets 20
