Raiders Work Out Pollard

Friday, Sept. 18

According to ESPN.com's Field Yates, the Oakland Raiders worked out Pollard on Friday as they seek help in the secondary.

The 30-year-old Pollard was a productive player as recently as 2013, ranking as the 21st-best safety out of 86 qualifiers by Pro Football Focus (h/t Zach Links of ProFootballRumors.com).

Oakland's 33-13 loss against Cincinnati in Week 1 was a disaster on multiple levels. Starting safeties Nate Allen and Charles Woodson suffered injuries. Allen landed on the injured reserve list with the designation to return after suffering a torn MCL.

Woodson suffered a dislocated shoulder but has returned to practice. Jimmy Durkin of the San Jose Mercury News noted the 38-year-old is trying to talk the coaching staff into letting him play Sunday against Baltimore.

The Raiders have already made one addition, signing Taylor Mays, but will need more depth in the secondary.

Pollard, who played only five games with Tennessee last season because of a ruptured Achilles tendon, has a long track record of starting, and he won the Super Bowl with Baltimore in 2012. He can provide the kind of talent that Oakland needs to get through this stretch without Allen.
