Seth Rollins vs. Sting: Best Possible Outcomes at WWE Night of Champions 2015

Aaron BowerSep 17, 2015

Without doubt, the standout match at this year's Night of Champions involves the second pay-per-view appearance of WCW legend Sting.

But this isn't any old match with nothing on the line for The Icon. It's a titanic headline tussle with WWE World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins with the title at stake.

Of course, Rollins could have already lost his United States Championship by the time the bell rings for the main event, as he's scheduled to do double duty and compete against John Cena.

With feverish speculation already buzzing around about what the best scenario would be to close the main event, here are a few outcomes that are probably the best ways to finish Night of Champions.

Sting Pulls Off the Impossible

Let's be honest—one finish that would satisfy WWE fans more than any other would involve Sting's getting his hands on the prize that nobody thought he'd ever touch.

The mere prospect of Sting's winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and being top dog in the company is a fantastic thought—one that would leave WWE with a lot of options not just moving forward but in the main event itself.

For instance, Sting could pull off a win that sees Rollins disowned by The Authority, or he could manage to do what nobody has done to date and see off The Authority's numbers game to win fair and square in the middle of the ring.

There is an obvious stumbling block, though: Sting's schedule. If he's going to be sticking around for at least the next couple of months, then there's no issue with his winning the title and having a decent run with it.

People will point to Brock Lesnar's sporadic appearances while champion, but WWE needs its flagship belt to be on television each and every week.

If Sting is sticking around, then his winning the title, no matter what the circumstances, has to rank as one of the better outcomes of the bunch.

Triple H Interferes and Sets Up a Rollins Feud

It's been long mooted that Triple H and Seth Rollins are going to square off at some point, probably when WWE decides to take the title away from Rollins.

So why not do it in spectacular fashion and set up the feud by having Triple H turn on the champion and turn him babyface in the process?

This scenario would require a lot of thinking and planning regarding what happens with the title, though, as it would be strange to have Triple H come down and aid Sting toward winning the title.

But if Triple H decided to change allegiance and put his faith in the hands of Sheamus as the new face of The Authority, that could be a much more viable option.

You would then have Sting upset and outraged his shot at the title was overshadowed and effectively ruined by The Authority's shenanigans, setting up a bout with the new champion.

Meanwhile, Rollins will simply be too preoccupied with The Authority, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon to care about the title.

It's been teased for a fair while, and this Sunday could be the night it finally happens. If WWE wants one last surprise for the night, this would be a great option.

Sheamus Cashes In, but Rollins Escapes

Similarly, if WWE wants a grand surprise, there is another option that it can explore in the main event, and it too involves Sheamus' cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase.

Given how Sheamus has failed to garner any real momentum in the runup to Night of Champions, any cash-in would certainly rank as a surprise. But cashing in doesn't always mean winning, as Damien Sandow and John Cena have proved in the past.

So if Rollins is to remain alongside The Authority and be the head of the company, why not use Sheamus as the pawn for another classic Rollins escape on main event?

Somehow, Rollins manages to down Sting fair and square and is left reeling after a titanic battle. That's when Sheamus charges down to the ring, demanding to cash in without any questions asked.

But no sooner has the bell rung than The Authority charges down, makes the save and helps Rollins to pick up a dramatic win.

It wouldn't satisfy those who are sick of Rollins' dirty wins on pay-per-view, but it would at least be a swerve of sorts.
