Arsenal Fans React to Shock Loss to Dinamo Zagreb in Champions League

The inquest began moments after the full-time whistle.

Wednesday night was a bad one for Arsenal fans, their side going down 2-1 to Dinamo Zagreb—who had not won a Champions League game since 1999—in Croatia.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s own goal and Olivier Giroud’s first-half red card were the key flashpoints in a match that had fans and the press pointing the blame all over the place.

It is a familiar story for Arsenal.

And leading the chorus of calls for Arsene Wenger to be sacked was Piers Morgan.

For Wenger, the defeat saw him become the first manager to register 50 losses in the Champions League.

The Frenchman made six changes to the side that defeated Stoke City on Saturday, including resting Francis Coquelin and goalkeeper Petr Cech. Even with a crunch match against Chelsea coming on Saturday, some fans were less than impressed by their manager’s rotation policy (video contains NSFW language).

Others were quick to point out Arsenal’s inactivity in the transfer market, which was exacerbated by Giroud’s dismissal. One fan even called the BBC to claim he spent more on coffee this summer than Arsenal did on a striker.

Giroud copped his fair share of blame for the defeat:

The Gunners are also grouped with Bayern Munich and Olympiacos in their bid to reach the knockout stages.
