Alonso Injured in 75th Minute vs. Olympiakos
Wednesday, September 16
The Reds' official Twitter account announced the news on Alonso, with Joshua Kimmich and Mario Gotze getting an opportunity to play in the Bayern midfield in place of the Spaniard and Arturo Vidal.
It's too early to speculate on Alonso's status moving forward. The unclear nature of his injury and the late juncture at which he exited the match could point to precautionary circumstances, though.
Alonso joined the Reds last year after stints with Liverpool and Real Madrid. The 33-year-old veteran brings immense experience to the lineup that would be difficult to replace if he misses extended time.
Bayern shouldn't be too alarmed about Alonso's injury amid the group stage. The club is formidable as defending Bundesliga champions and advanced all the way to the Champions League semifinals last season, losing to eventual trophy winners Barcelona.
