Ahmad Bradshaw Agrees to 1-Year Contract with Colts

Scott PolacekSep 15, 2015

Ahmad Bradshaw has eight years of NFL experience and 4,843 rushing yards on his resume, but he was a free agent until he struck a deal with his former team, the Indianapolis Colts, heading into Week 6.

The team announced the move on Wednesday, and Pro Football Talk reported it is a one-year deal. Steve Andress of Colts Media reported he is eligible to play immediately.

On Oct. 5, Pro Football Talk shared word of Bradshaw's visit with the Colts.

Bradshaw played for the Indianapolis Colts in 2013 and 2014, so there is a level of familiarity already in place. It is no surprise, then, that the team could turn his way as it attempts to add depth to the running back position.

Bradshaw appeared in 13 games over the past two years for the Colts and tallied 611 rushing yards and four touchdown runs. While the running totals don’t necessarily stand out, he did catch six touchdowns for the Colts in 2014 and added 300 receiving yards as a consistent threat in the passing attack.

Bradshaw is also not that far removed from a 2012 season with the New York Giants that saw him tally 1,015 rushing yards, 245 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Given Frank Gore's arrival in the offseason, Bradshaw will fit in behind Gore in a backup role alongside rookies Josh Robinson and Tyler Varga. The Colts also waived Vick Ballard on Sept. 15, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport

Bradshaw provides a veteran presence the team needs, and his ability to get involved in the passing game also fits in perfectly with the Colts and superstar quarterback Andrew Luck, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury.

This move makes sense from both the team’s and the player's perspective as the Colts look to find a good run of form after an uninspiring 3-2 start to the season.
