Still and Colts Meet, No Word On Potential Deal

Tuesday, Sept. 15

Field Yates of ESPN reported the news, noting the Colts need help on their defensive line. It's worth noting that Indianapolis waived running back Vick Ballard on Tuesday as well, per ESPN's Mike Wells, so the team may be opening up a roster spot to add defensive help.

Still, 26, was released by the Cincinnati Bengals as part of their 53-man roster cuts. The fourth-year defensive tackle made a career-high 19 tackles in 12 games last season and has totaled 30 overall since being selected in the second round in 2012.

Of course, Still is best known for his work with cancer research, which began when his daughter, Leah, was diagnosed last year. The Bengals had released Still as part of their final roster cuts a year ago but placed him on their practice squad so Leah could continue having health insurance.

Her journey became one of the NFL's biggest feel-good stories of the 2014 season, with the Bengals donating $1.3 million to Cincinnati's Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Leah's name last November.

"If I didn't go through what I went through last year," Still said, per Cole Harvey of ESPN.com, "I'd have a tough time. I've had to sit and wait through worse stuff than this."

Leah and Devon Still were presented with the Jimmy V. Perseverance Award at this year's ESPYs.

The Colts already have seven defensive linemen listed on their depth chart, so it'll be interesting to see if another roster move is on the way if they sign Still. Given their struggles to stop the Buffalo Bills' shaky offense in Week 1, however, it appears seven linemen aren't enough at this point.
