Redskins Release Kicker, Offer Season Ticket Holders Chance to Try Kicking

In further proof that the universe has aligned to make any and everything the Washington Redskins do an act of high comedy, the franchise's newest season-ticket-holder offer couldn't have been timed any more spectacularly.

Washington Post reporter/Redskins gaffe archivist Dan Steinberg noticed the franchise is now offering ticket holders a chance to try their foot at kicking on a professional football field.

Now, I'm not saying there's any ulterior motive to this offer, but...

Oh. Yeah. That whole thing.

The Redskins released kicker Kai Forbath on Monday after Sunday's 17-10 season-opening loss to the Miami Dolphins.  

Forbath had struggled with consistency in the preseason and training camp, and a missed 46-yarder on Sunday apparently was the last straw for the Washington front office.

And while this probably is not an attempt to crowdsource kicking talent from the Redskins fanbase (Washington has signed former Saints place kicker Dustin Hopkins to replace Forbath, per Mike Jones of the Post), the timing conjures up all sorts of spectacular Invincible notions.

My first thought upon seeing this offer was, "Kai Forbath is going to sneak out there in a fake mustache and take his job back!"—which would be a believable thing that could happen to the Redskins, given recent front office oversights. 

So go out there and give it a whack, Redskins fans.

Worst-case scenario, you end up like Forbath: playing your position better than anyone else in franchise history only to be released after one bad week.
