WWE Night of Champions 2015: Bold Predictions for PPV Showcase
With a number of high-profile stars set to feature, Night of Champions promises much in the way of excitement and drama.
The WWE World Heavyweight Champion is in action twice on the night, whilst first pay-per-view appearances in quite some time from the likes of Sting and The Dudley Boyz offer fans plenty of reasons to be optimistic for this Sunday.
And it seems likely we’re going to get some big moments that have a sizeable impact on the future of WWE as we head towards the latter part of the year, with several titles potentially set to change hands.
So with that in mind, here are some bold predictions for what we can expect this Sunday as WWE once again goes to pay-per-view.
The Dudley Boyz' Unbeaten Run in WWE Will End
1 of 4The tag division in WWE has the biggest buzz about it that it’s had for quite some time. That’s down to a number of teams and a number of reasons, but it’s obvious that the return of The Dudley Boyz has given the landscape of the division a major shot in the arm.
It comes as no surprise, therefore, that Bubba Ray and D-Von are slated to take on The New Day at Night of Champions this Sunday, with the WWE Tag Team Championship on the line.
They are yet to lose a match since returning to WWE and are speaking openly of their desire to become the first team to have 10 reigns as tag champions, but that’s a quest that should continue beyond this weekend. Having them win the title at the first opportunity doesn’t really seem right, especially when you consider that they’d be ending the reign of The New Day far too early.
The New Day should be the winners here, because the way they’ve worked what seemed like a disastrous gimmick into a hugely enjoyable one needs rewarding. For The Dudley Boyz, they should be getting their hands on the gold further down the line.
Charlotte Will Win, with a Twist
2 of 4There was controversy aplenty with the Divas division on the final Raw before Night of Champions, as Charlotte failed to ensure Nikki Bella would fall short of becoming the longest-reigning Divas Champion. That left plenty of WWE fans with a sour taste in the mouth, especially given the fact that The Bella Twins used their "Twin Magic" to cost Charlotte a clean victory after she pinned Brie, as opposed to Nikki.
The fact Stephanie McMahon set up a rematch for Night of Champions didn’t really fill many people with enthusiasm after such a disappointing title match on Raw, so how can it be made a success this Sunday?
The obvious answer would be having Charlotte win, but in order to give the Divas Revolution storyline, which has fallen completely flat at the moment, a lift, have a nice swerve afterwards to make things interesting.
Paige has been on an awful losing run lately and has fallen down the pecking order of potential challengers for the Divas Championship, so why not have Team PCB implode on pay-per-view by having Paige turn and take down Charlotte?
This nine-star, three-team stable idea has no future whatsoever, so it’s about time WWE tries something different. Having a turn from one of the baby-faces would be a great way to do that.
Kevin Owens Will Dethrone Ryback
3 of 4One match that may have slipped under the radar at Night of Champions, given how there’s talk of Seth Rollins pulling double duty and Sting competing on the show, is the Intercontinental Championship match between Kevin Owens and Ryback.
By his own recent high standards, Owens has been incredibly quiet lately on TV, and that would suggest he’s going to make a sizeable impact when he steps in the ring against Ryback this Sunday. It has been a stop-start beginning to Owens’ time on the main roster thus far, but a win this Sunday to become the new Intercontinental Champion could be just the shot in the arm he needs at the moment.
That’s nothing against Ryback, who has been a decent-enough custodian of the belt, but Owens just feels like he’s in the right place to go on and win his first major title on the main roster.
And as well as that, with Daniel Bryan looming in the background and still likely to return in the future, the thought of an Owens vs. Bryan feud for the title Bryan never really lost is simply mouthwatering.
Cesaro to Be the Mystery Third Man
4 of 4
One man who is suspiciously absent from the card at Night of Champions this Sunday is the man who’s built up a real reputation for himself lately, Cesaro.
The "Cesaro Section" signs made a welcome reappearance on Raw this past week, and hopes are still high that WWE will give him that push he has long deserved. But with no plans scheduled for this Sunday, where does WWE turn to keep him at the forefront of the action? Thankfully, there is a logical and obvious answer.
Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose confirmed on Raw that they’ve found a third man to team up with them to take on The Wyatt Family this Sunday, but as of now, we’re completely in the dark.
Imagine the reaction if Cesaro’s music hit to be the mystery man Reigns and Ambrose were alluding to. Sure, it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise in the world, but it would make the six-man tag match at Night of Champions a whole lot more interesting.
With such a big tease being suggested for this mystery man, WWE needs to ensure it hits the nail on the head and delivers a partner people genuinely care about. Cesaro would tick those boxes and a whole lot more if it were revealed to be him.
