Winston Becomes 1st Player Since Favre to Throw Pick-6 on 1st Pass

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 15, 2015

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston started his NFL career in the worst possible way, becoming the first signal-caller since Brett Favre of the 1991 Atlanta Falcons to throw an interception return for touchdown on the first pass attempt of his career, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Winston took the field with his team already in a 7-0 hole, and after two carries by running back Doug Martin netted seven yards, the rookie quarterback threw an easy pick-six to Titans cornerback Coty Sensabaugh on a pass intended for wide receiver Adam Humphries in the left flat on 3rd-and-3.

The game quickly got out of hand, with the Titans taking a 35-7 lead into halftime, behind four touchdown passes from fellow rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota, who was selected second overall (one pick behind Winston) in the 2015 NFL draft.

Mariota ultimately finished with a perfect 158.3 passer rating, becoming the first rookie to hit that mark in a Week 1 game, per Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910 AM.

Winston did manage to throw for 210 yards and two touchdowns, but he tossed a couple of interceptions and only completed 16 of his 33 pass attempts (48.5 percent), finishing with a lowly 64.0 passer rating.

Mariota completed 13 of his 16 passes (81.6 percent) for 209 yards and four touchdowns, without committing any turnovers
