Vikings vs. 49ers: Live Score and Analysis for San Francisco

The San Francisco 49ers opened their 2015 NFL campaign with a prime-time matchup against the visiting Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.

Monday's contest was the first regular-season tilt for new head coach Jim Tomsula as he guides a team that underwent one of the most turbulent offseasons in recent memory. The best way for the 49ers to showcase their abilities to the football world would be to come away with a win versus Minnesota.

The Vikings enjoyed the return of running back Adrian Peterson, who missed nearly the entirety of 2014. Frequently matching up against him was San Francisco linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who also missed last year.

This duel, among others, was at the heart of the story when these two teams squared off at 10:20 p.m. ET on ESPN.

After a poorly played first half, San Francisco finally opened up the scoring with a 10-yard rushing touchdown by running back Carlos Hyde just before the half.

San Francisco opened up the second half with a field goal following an elongated offensive drive in which quarterback Colin Kaepernick showed plenty of pocket poise.

The Vikings answered back with a long drive of their own, but they only capped it off with a 37-yard field goal from kicker Blair Walsh.

Yet the 49ers put their offense back on the shoulders of Kaepernick and Hyde. The 49ers running back capped off the subsequent San Francisco drive with a 17-yard touchdown rush. The 49ers added another field goal following an interception by cornerback Tramaine Brock.

San Francisco never looked back as its defense kept up its strong effort.

The 49ers win 20-3 in Week 1 of the 2015 season.
