WWE Raw: Potential Spoilers, Rumors, News and Preview for September 14

Ryan DilbertSep 14, 2015

On the final WWE Raw before Night of Champions, two titles may change owners by the end of the night.

WWE is billing the go-home show as Raw's "season premiere" and is making sure it feels like a major night by having both Nikki Bella and The New Day defend their titles. In addition to the pursuit of championship gold, a historic reign, the fight for a chance to meet The Dudley Boyz and several battles for momentum will make up a big part of Raw's three hours.

The FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee, will play host to all of it.

Will Randy Orton be there to avenge a beatdown? Will Seth Rollins have to endure encounters with both of the men vying for the straps on his shoulders? Backstage reports and hints from James Wortman's five-point preview on WWE.com provided answers en route to the latest pay-per-view.

Scheduled Bouts

As announced on last week's Raw, Memphis fans are set to see two live title matches just days before the Night of Champions PPV. Charlotte will challenge Nikki Bella for the Divas Championship. The Prime Time Players will get their own crack at gold when they face The New Day for the Tag Team Championship.

Charlotte earned the right to take on Nikki by winning a Beat the Clock Challenge two weeks ago. She'll get her shot early, which will allow her to potentially stop Nikki's pursuit of history.

Should Nikki retain on Monday night, she will surpass AJ Lee's record as the longest-reigning Divas champ ever.

As for the two dueling tag teams, the winner of Monday's match will take on The Dudley Boyz at Night of Champions, as the Attitude Era fan favorites informed us on last week's show.

News, Potential Spoilers

A week after Sting trashed Rollins' statue, he is reportedly set to return to the screen. PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson reported, "Sting has been booked for Monday's WWE Night of Champions PPV 'go home' edition of Raw in Memphis, TN, PWInsider.com has confirmed."

Usually, WWE has Sting appear more infrequently, but since he is headlining the upcoming event opposite Rollins, it's not surprising that the company would change things up a bit. Monday's Raw is WWE's last big sales pitch for Night of Champions, and it will be more effective with Sting onstage.

Leading up to Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev at Sunday's PPV, don't count on seeing Lana at all. The Ravishing Russian, who was injured earlier this month, is bound to be resting at home instead.

WWE announced on its official website that Lana underwent successful wrist surgery on Friday. That makes it highly improbable that she'll show up to Monday's Raw, even for a non-physical role.

A storyline injury may or may not push Orton off WWE TV for a short while.

The Wyatt Family ambushed him on last week's Raw after his win over Sheamus. It's now unclear whether that was supposed to be a narrative send-off or not. According to Johnson, a WWE source confirmed that "Orton is not currently figured into storyline plans for the next several weeks, including the Night of Champions PPV."

However, The Viper did work a house show in Huntsville, Alabama, this past Saturday, according to ProFightDB.com. And he is still advertised for Monday's Raw, as James Caldwell of Pro Wrestling Torch noted.

Orton is not mentioned in Wortman's Raw preview.

Dave Meltzer isn't sure of WWE's plans, either. He reported in Sunday's update on F4WOnline, "As far as whether he's being written out of things creatively and taking time off, that we don't know, as he could just appear in dark-match segments."

Night of Champions Home Stretch

When Orton fell victim to the Wyatt clan, speculation about whether he was Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose's mystery partner arose. There would be an obvious motive for him to team up with these two. Jimmy Uso is in the same position after The Wyatt Family attacked him on last week's SmackDown.

Whether it's Orton, Uso or someone else entirely who sides with Reigns and Ambrose, there's a chance that WWE will make the big reveal on Monday night.

Wortman wrote, "Will The Big Dog and The Lunatic Fringe be able to find a partner before their Six-Man Tag Team Match against The Wyatt Family at Night of Champions?" That could foreshadow their struggle to recruit anyone in Memphis and force them to wait until Sunday to get their partner. Otherwise, WWE could look to create buzz for the six-man bout by showing its cards early.

There's no mystery involved with Ziggler vs. Rusev.

Lana is hurt. Ziggler, Rusev and Summer Rae must then carry on this hackneyed storyline without her for now. In his preview, Wortman seems to indicate there will be a development in that story.

He wrote, "Whatever happens between these warring couples on Raw, the WWE Universe will be buzzing."

And while Rollins is certain to have his issues with John Cena on Monday's Raw, chances are he and Sting will get their time in the spotlight as well.

Wortman teased that Sting and Rollins will collide when he asked, "Will 'The Future of WWE' lure Sting from the shadows for a confrontation before their WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match at Night of Champions?"

It would make sense to allow Rollins to respond to getting embarrassed last week. After losing two matches and watching his statue get demolished, he's bound to be in a foul mood. Whether WWE decides to let him act on that in violent fashion or continue to book him as a hapless heel remains to be seen.

The company has portrayed the champion as a slippery rat. Now cornered by two rivals, he's poised to bite, either leading up to or at Night of Champions.
