Matt McGloin's Updated 2015 Fantasy Outlook After Derek Carr's Injury
With Derek Carr out of action, the opportunity is there for Matt McGloin to prove why he should be the Oakland Raiders' starting quarterback and establish himself as a fixture in your fantasy football lineup.
If history is any indicator, he'll likely fail in both aims.
The Raiders were forced to bring on McGloin after Carr suffered a hand injury, per Sports Illustrated NFL. Here's a look at his final numbers from the 33-13 defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals:

"It's a tough situation," McGloin said after the game, per ESPN.com's Bill Williamson. "If I have to play next week, it will be good to have a full week of practice [with the starters]."
Having advance notice would certainly benefit McGloin should he start Week 2. Any NFL quarterback would have issues jumping into the middle of a regular-season game with little notice. As RaiderBeat.com's Steve Corkran highlighted, the 25-year-old also entered at the worst possible time:
Damon Bruce of 95.7 The Game in the Bay Area is a bit surprised the wheels are falling off for the Raiders this early into the season:
In terms of injury replacements, Oakland could be in worse shape than relying on McGloin. Based on what we've seen so far from the former Penn State star in the past, though, he doesn't boast a high ceiling.
As a result, don't give McGloin much thought for your fantasy team.
Before the injury, Carr was a nothing more than QB2 in standard 10- or 12-team leagues. While Amari Cooper is a promising young wideout, it will likely be another year or two until the Raiders have a genuinely good passing game. They haven't had a receiver eclipse 1,000 passing yards since Randy Moss in 2005.
Considering that, McGloin has little fantasy value at the moment. In eight career NFL games, he had 1,676 yards, nine touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 56.5 completion percentage. Those numbers don't exactly scream "reliable fantasy quarterback."
Should Carr's injury prove to be serious and you have him on your team, McGloin might be a sensible addition; you would at least know McGloin is going to see the field.
Otherwise, his only real worth will come in daily fantasy leagues when the Raiders have a favorable matchup or if you're looking for a cost-effective option at quarterback.
